Frequently Asked Questions
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and to begin understanding what has brought you to Pillars. We’ll talk about your current concerns, relevant background information, and what you’re hoping to gain from therapy.
I’ll also explain how I work, discuss confidentiality and consent, and answer any questions you may have. There is no pressure to share anything you’re not ready to discuss — the session is paced according to your comfort and needs.
Yes, telehealth appointments are available via secure video conferencing. Telehealth sessions are conducted in the same way as in-person sessions and are suitable for many concerns. I do recommend however that you try to attend your initial appointment in-person, although it's perfectly fine if this isn't possible.
Telehealth may be a good option if you live remotely, have mobility or time constraints, or prefer to attend sessions from the comfort of your own space. Medicare rebates may apply to eligible telehealth appointments.
To allow appointments to be offered to others, we require at least 48 hours notice for cancellations or rescheduling.
Late cancellations or non-attendance will incur a fee. This fee is not claimable through Medicare or private health insurance. Full details of our cancellation policy will be provided at the time of booking.
Not all referrals will be accepted under these schemes. If you would like to discuss the suitability of your referral then please get in touch with Pillars via email or phone.
If you have a question that isn't answered here, please feel free to reach out - you don't have to navigate this alone.
Session fees are outlined below and are payable at the time of your appointment.
If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, you may be eligible for Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. You will generally be referred for an initial 6 sessions then you will return to your GP to access a further 4 sessions. Please discuss this further with your Doctor for more information.
Private health rebates may also be available, depending on your insurer and level of cover.
The rebate for a Registered Psychologist in Australia is $98.95 per session (50-60mins). The Psychologist's total fee is payable on the day of the session and Medicare will refund $98.95 following your session usually within 24 hours.
Initial consultation - Fee $245 (out of pocket $146.05)
Standard (subsequent consultations) - Fee $220 (out of pocket $121.05)
EMDR - Extended sessions
Medicare provides one rebate for one session per day. As a result, the out-of-pocket expense will be higher for extended EMDR sessions:
90mins - Fee $330.00 (out of pocket $231.05)
120mins - Fee $440 (out of pocket $341.05)
Not all EMDR sessions need to be extended and are arranged with Felicity as needed.
Please note that Pillars is a private practice and unfortunately cannot offer bulk-billed appointments.
